John, on the coolant temp
John AE can do anything a ford shop can do except for flash programming. Depending what system you log into you can diag all of the systems. Mine payed for itself in the first 2 months I owned it on saved labor & diag cost.
The engine coolant sensor is used as the primary input to the Electronic Control system to enable adaptive cooling. This provides a means of providing adequate cooling in severe engine temperature conditions. When ECT is greater than 107°C (225°F), the fueling rate of the engine is modified to provide cooling protection and prevent engine damage due to overheating. An ECT sensor is used only on manual transmission equipped vehicles

OK, here's an update. It's up to it's old tricks still. But man, this thing runs great when warm. It feels better without the chip than with it.....
Where is the oil temp sensor mounted at? Gonna look at changing that and the manifold sensor first.....
Gonna look into getting the AE stuff too. I'll keep ya'll posted. It might be awhile before I get back at diagnosing this thing. Work is going to get brutal here starting next week. I'm probably not going to slow down until the end of Feb... We've got a long list of vessels that need to be commissioned and sea-trialed, so I'm anticipating being offshore more than onshore for the next few weeks.....
Anyway, I'm off to the Superdome later on for the start of the tailgate party for the Saints/Eagles football game here tonight........Wish them Saints some luck, will ya!!!!!!!!!

Yea I let het sit for a few days and got her cranked tuesday and she chugged bad. had my foot on the floor and was barely creeping along and she finally started picking up rpm. Just like yours once warmed up she ran like a champ. I am going to let her sit until monday and hook up AE before I crank to see what I can see, but right now I am thinking compression.
I think it was right around 30 when I cranked her.

NOT, what I wanted to hear........
Have you tried unplugging the accelerator pedal while it chugs? Can you try that and see the result? Mine almost smoothed out completely when I did it, But I could only get it to do it once. It never really followed a pattern.....
