97 5.0L heads????

96 through mid February 97 had GT-40 heads. Late February and later have GT-40P heads. There might have been a few in the later part that had regular GT-40 heads, but not many because the setups had more different parts than just the heads.
Besides looking at the spark plug angle on the heads, the easiest way to know which engine you are looking at (if you have the entire engine) is to look and se what EGR setup is on the Explorer. If it has a tube running from the EGR valve to the passenger exhaust manifold, it is a late 97+ model with GT-40P heads.

GT40 and GT40P heads can take the same headers. I would suggest looking at Torque Monster headers personally, but since you are going into a F150, there are other choices also.
Are you buying an entire vehicle or just the engine? If you could, I would get everything you can from them - wiring harnesses, PCM, etc. It would make the swap a lot easier unless you are not going OBDII.
