Oil Temp sending unit

My buddy wants to install an oil temp guage in his 99 PSD. Is there already an oil temp sending unit in the truck we can tap into? If not. . . where is a good location to mount such a sending unit as taking off the oil pan is a huge job. Thanks
Tim

Who says you have to take the oil pan off? Get a drill and hole the pan a couple inches above the bottom line before your oil change. Not sure the oil temp is too helpful for the most part tho

Instead of drilling the pan, why not remove the plug that is in the oil filter flange next to the block heater? Then you can see the temperature of the oil that is being sent to the engine.

So what? "Y" it off? One for the pressure and the other for the temp?

There's also a plug in the block back by the oil filter that you can use. This would allow both oil temp and oil pressure to both be hooked up in seperate holes for the most accurate reading. The plug in the block is where I have one of my oil pressure senders hooked up. The plug is a square head, with 1/8" NPT threads, so the sending unit fits right in. Here's a pic of the location on the block, with my sending unit already installed:

Ron, yes it's right next to the bellhousing. You can see my oil filter on the far left side of that picture. The black cover below the sending unit is the cover over the torque coverter. Transmission behind it, to the right in the picture. The plug is on the driver's side. That picture was taken by sticking the camera through the driver's side wheel opening.

Both the oil filter housing plug and the one on the block should read approximately the same pressure, if not identical. I used the block simply because I've already used the plug on the filter housing for the supply hose to my oil guard bypass filter.
