What % of Diesel Kleen most use?

It seems like most people here use Diesel Kleen as a fuel additive, and I have been using it also since my second fill up, but how much does everyone use? I have been adding about eight ounces per tank (about twenty gallons).

How much do you add?

Wingedpig,

If i remember correctly of the top of my head the max amount to add to obtain max cetane etc is 0.64 ounces per gallon. Any more than that and you are just wasting the product as no further benefits are gained.

Hope this helps

Good question, Winnepeg. I've just added it into my tank for hte second time, will be the third one tonight. I've been ramping up slowly, since I already have nearly 118,000 miles and have only had the truck for <3 months.

Not knowing if the previous owner used anything or not, I am taking the slow and easy approach in the event that there is a lot of junk in my system that needs to be cleaned out. I figure that a slow dissolving approach my help me avoid early fuel fiilter pluggage. Once I get to my planned "full dosage" of 16 oz per 30 gallons, I will change the fuel filter and go from there.

I know...not supposed to do it but, alas...I read the label. 0.64oz/gal.

With that said, don't be concerned with too much. Won't hurt it. While the value of added cetane plateaus a little above 50 ...you still get added water dispersement and the additional lubricity enhancement.

I run double dosage year round.

I am after lubricity, cleaning action and cetane boost. Double is the point that any more costs out weigh the benefits (per a phone call I made to Powerservice yearly this year).

I run grey bottle in summer and just switched to the white bottle as temps here in KC are getting into the 30's at night.

Since I drive an Excursion, I have a 44 gallon tank and just add 32oz per fill up. I use an MSR brand camping fuel bottle and refill them as needed as I buy the 96oz jugs and refill 2 MSR bottles (33oz size) and just pour it in at each fill-up. I always fill up when I am at 1/2 or 1/4 level on my fuel guage and never go below 1/4 in the winter!!!!

More is better than less with Powerservice up to double dosage and it will not hurt anything. If in doubt... use more... as less could leave you stranded if needing anti-gel benefits depending on where you live!!

Thumbs up diesel kleen

I have been using 16oz per fill up in my 02 F250 for about one year now. I use the stuff in the white jug. I use an old bottle of injector cleaner because the label said it`s 16oz. My manual said I have a 110 liter fuel tank. I use this year round and I believe my engine runs smoother and quieter.

Thanks for the replies.

I was curious as the label actually says two different blends, one being .64 oz/gal, and the other being .32 oz/gal, and I believed that I was splitting the difference. Since I usually get gas when I'm showing about half on the gauge (around 15 to 18 gallons give or take, for now I'll stick with eight to ten ounces of Diesel Kleen. And since it's starting to get cold I guess I might as well switch to the white bottle.

Thanks again.

I applaud all you guys who take the time to measure it out. I get the big bottle from Wal-Mart (96oz I think) and stick it behind the back seat. When I fill up I just pour some in, a couple of glugs and call it square.

I have been using ULSD here in CA since I got my truck back in March. Hell I don't even think I have seen the old style diesel since I got my truck here in CA. I run the DK in it every other tank. Seems to be working out good.

.32 oz/gal = +3 cetane boost
.64 oz/gal = +6 cetane boost

Max obtainable cetane boost is +6.

Hope this helps

16 ozs per 25 gallons gives you the +6 cetane, I pretty much can tell when there's room for another 25 gallons (+ or -) 1 or 2.

Makes it easier going with half a bottle at a time.

I wish they would make a longer spout on the bottle

As a rule of thumb for the "gray bottle", I add 1 ounce of "Diesel Kleen" for every 3 gallons to get the 3+ cetane boost.

Considering I paid twice the money on this truck that I did on my 1st house I'd kinda like to have it last a looooooong time, $5 for 2 fill ups is cheap insurance.

But what are you insuring? Mine has lasted over 368,000 miles, how long are you going to actually keep yours? It's been proven over & over that these trucks don't need any aditives and Ford doesn't recommend them.

I'll probably keep it until the new 6.4 Liter is proven reliable, I have 111,000 mile on this rig which I ordered from the factory. I've used Diesel Kleen for the last 40,000 miles and the engine runs noticeable better, in addition my mpg increased about 1 to 2 mpg. On occasion my local supplier of DK has ran out and I can really tell the difference on a tank without DK.
