'97 F-350 w/7.3psd wacky oil press gauge
please jump in and give me some advice....I am looking to bid on a 97 F-350 4x4 w psd tomorrow..looked at yesterday.seems to run ok...not allowed to drive...just move around. started ok...just like my 7.3 IDI..a puff of smoke and then clears....turbo can be heard when reved up...but a strange thing...when I hit the throttle...the oil pressure gauge goes to zero in unison with throttle.....at zero gauge press...NO strange noises....seems to pass thru a phase like a gas motor that was getting too much gas for a second or two and then runs fine again with the zero gauge pressure
MY QUESTION...could this be a bad pressure sensor or is this diesel shot???...I understand that the psd depends on oil press for diesel injection....so if its running ok...must be sensor...RIGHT....or wrong?
a quick reponse appreciated...its a nice truck except for this issue it has 153k miles and is automatic trans....

I have seen a truck that the oil press gauge always read low. But when it was tested it was at the correct pressure. In your case I cannot say for sure.
You are correct that the injectors are ran off oil pressure, and if its running ok there is a good change it could be the sensor. I'm not saying go ahead and buy the truck. It could be an easy fix with the sensor, or a more serious problem. Some type of live data plug in device would tell the oil pressure if you can get your hands on one (that would be the safe bet). Good luck and tell us what you come up with.
