Anyone replaced the Signal mirror?

Anyone replaced the Signal mirror?
I found several threads that pointed me to the manufacturer for the signal mirror for a 97 EB Expedition. My left mirror is badly scratched and dimmed and needs replacement.
The vendor replacement kit has good instructions, except they seem written to add the signal capability to a vehicle that previously did not have this installed. They route wiring down and suggest where to tie it into the SUV wiring.
Since I already have a signal mirror many of these steps 'should' be redundant. Anyone done this who can comment on what to skip? For example, can I just pull the wire off the old mirror and connect to the new right in the mirror housing, avoiding the need to remove all the door trim and other stuff?

So you're replacing just the glass? or are you replacing the whole assembly?
The connector for the assembly is behind the door panel... just be careful removing it you can break the hooks that hold it in place. Should be a simple unplug/plug procedure, once you get the door panel off.
Good luck.

As long as you are just changing the mirror and the LED signal (it is all one piece) you do not have to open up the door. I followed the instructions with replacements and was able to pop off the mirror, disconnect it within the mirror housing, reconnect the new and snap it back on. Just a few minute job. You should only have to go into the door panel if you are adding a new feature (LEDs, or heat) to your mirror.
If I recall there were instructions to help pry off the old, something like adjusting the mirror all the way towards the door to aid you in getting behind it. And there were also details on how to align three points to get the new assbembly to mount correctly - this I had to repeat twice on one side. Overall it was a straight-forward job.
