And the reason it's going so low is that it has those PITA Strombergs on it,

I sold a nice original 3x2 set up from my 406 back in Sept for $1600 on epay. Correct carbs and original fuel log, linkage and aircleaner. I was surprised it went that high and it had a $1000 reserve on it. I put a lot of time into polishing the intake and aircleaner lid tho so that might have helped. Most pursuists frown upon the polished look but i like it. Carls Ford parts sells re issued Holleys from the original tooling. Demon also sells a set of trips with the aircleaner but no intake. The Demons are like $1700 without the intake. Carl sells a complete 3x2 with the re issue holleys, intake, aircleaner, fuel log and linkage for $1700. They do look cool and have run very well for me in the past.

When I finally let my 3X2s off the 406, actually the 390 and 406 setups were identical, go better than 10 years ago I still got $800 for it. Had the manifold, all the correct carbs, fuel block, the factory linkage and the air cleaner.

BTW on the 3x2 FE intakes there were 3 different castings. 2 dual plane and a super rare single plane. I've had both of the DP castings but have only seen pics of the single plane. Runner placement was slightly different on the DP's. I can't remember exactly but it will come to me....

Not to hijack or change subjects on this thread, but.......I've got a 3X2 Buddy Bar setup for a 289/302. I picked it up about 25 years ago and I finally got around to checking out the carb numbers on it. Turns out the center carb is for a 390 instead of a 289. Oh well, it was a cheap buy at the time.

Getting back to the single plane/dual plane 390 3X2 intakes, what year application was the single plane for?

I'm not sure if it was a production intake. I think it was a over the counter or race only piece. They are rare as hens teeth and I've only seen pics of the single plane. I never knew they exsisted. I've also never seen published info in any part or off highway catalogs about them either. That 3x2 Buddy Bar for the 289 is worth a pretty penny. Complete setups are over $3000 and very hard to come by. Nice find even if it has the wrong center carb.

The small block setups aren't worth that any longer. Mustangs Unlimited sells a complete repop setup, intake, carbs, linkage, fuel log, with 3 Holley 250's for $1400. This is the setup I ran on my 331. Same carbs and linkage and air cleaner work also on an FE setup. When i was looking for mine, I had several sellers wanting to stick me with the original setup for more cash. Ended up with a year old repop setup for $1100 shipped.

The difference in two dual plane FE intakes was the carb pad angle, the T-Bird setup had the carb pad level, instead of tilted slightly.

I thought it was the other way around. The T-bird motor tilt back a lot cause the car body sat so low. My 3X2 was out of Galaxie and the pads were flat.

I don't know Bear, but the 4 bbl intake I pulled off a 64 Bird had a weird carb spacer that tilted the carb level, and I've heard the info on the T-bird tripower on the FE big block forum on Network54.

Yep the Gal intakes have the angled carb pads. Tbirds were flat. There were 2 different Galaxie DP's besides the Tbird intake. The regular Tbird intakes were std FE intakes with a angled spacer under the carb.
