05-07 headlight retro-fit to 99-04

Does anyone have a good writeup on the procedure that needs to happen to retrofit the 05-07 headlights to the 99-04 body without changing the grill and bumper items? I would search but I don't actually see that feature.

I want to put the 05+ headlights on my 01 and I know some of you out there have done the complete conversion. Also there was one that I thought had done just the headlights.

Besides the housings and plugs what else is needed parts wise? What are the modifications that need to take place to the header panel to get the newer headlights bolted up?

Thanks for your help.

Matt

The 05-6 grille is narrower and taller. So I think you will have a hard time fitting the headlights in with the 99-04 grille. Maybe someone else will have better news.

I was pretty sure there are a few that have added the headlights without the change of the grill and the bumper.

Please help me figure this out as I don't want to pony up for the entire package...

Thanks,
Matt

check my gallery. its an 01.. reax, the grill is not more narrow than the older one. its just taller, well, lower. thats why you have to do the bumper if you want to do the grill. and the procedure in the blackclouddiesel site is exactly what i did. it was easy not a pain in the ***. took about 2 hours total. the only tool that i used was a dremmel. very easy........ just doing the headlights will not effect the grill at all. nor will it be a factor on the bumper..

Thanks, This is exactly what I was thinking it was going to be. I have the dremel and have been using it for 15 years. This should be a CAKE WALK!

I knew some one here knew how to get this done or where to find the information for it.

I have my headlights being source for me by a friend that owns a Ford dealership... The entire setup is $$$$ for the bumper, grill, header panel and the healights. Not sure but he indicated that he might be able to get the XL Decour package as an add on which comes with all the stuff for the swap.

I am going to try to see if he can get me the Harley lights instead of the regular ones.

If you dont want the cost/hassle of piecing it together I saw Dfuser(sponsor) sells kits for upgrading the lights.. They were way less than 600 including the lights.. the harley kit is just under 6 .. the kits came with upgraded wiring and bulbs as well..

I have a couple questions on this topic as well. I have acess to an '05 bumper and grille. The bumper has no brackets with it. I have an '04 SD, my questions are....
1- Can I use the '05 grille with my '04 headlights?
2- Will my bumper brackets work on the '05 bumper?
3- Will my factory fog lights mount in the '05 bumper the same as the '04?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

1- yes you can use the 05 grill with the 04 headlights. you just will not be able to snap the bottom of the grill on. you will have to wire tie it from the inside.
2- no, the side brackets will have to be from an 05 bumper. dont worry, iy will bolt up to the 04 frame.
3- yes and no. you can use the fog lights. but, you will have to get the fog light brackets for an 05 bumper.

Thanks, I'm getting these parts for next to nothing, so if I have to spend a couple bucks on brackets and such it's no big deal. I will need the plastic upper part of the bumper though, and have to get it painted. The parts came off of a local businessmans truck that wanted to black out the front of his truck. The thing is like a limo, it's basically a double crewcab.
