When I added the sump to my rear gas tank I went to the trouble of painting it up nicely with POR 15 and it looks great. It was getting warmer and I slapped it back in with the old straps. Now that the weather is crappy again I went out and bought two new straps to paint. Since it will all look pretty again I want to keep problems down so what do you folks use as an insulating material between the strap and tank? Thanks.

I used an old pair of jeans, but I think a chunk of firehose cut to make a single thickness would work.

 

Bicycle tube, rubber belting, gasket material, etc.

 

I used some nylon webbing like tow straps are made out of. Seemed to work well.
