Question Machine shop in San Gabriel Valley or surrounding areas

I have a 79 F250 4x4 with a 400 in it that needs a full rebuild. I'm staying in the Pasadena area, and wanted to get some recommendations on any machine shops (hopefully within like 10 miles or so as I need to get her towed there ).
I'll be ordering a rebuild kit through either TMI or PAW, and seeing as I've never done a rebuild before, and I'm working 6-7 days a week at the moment, I don't have the time or energy to work on her myself.
If anybody knows a good shop (hopefully one that'll warranty their work, I swear every single thing that could go wrong with this truck has!) it'd be a great help, as I'd rather get info from Ford folks than taking my baby to some random shop that knows nothing of the 335 series.
Thanks folks!
Taylor

Thanks a lot guys!
I actually called Allied a couple of weeks ago, and they referred me to Hollywood Machine Shop in Altadena. I'll call the others you have listed when I have some free time to compare quotes and all. Anyone here know the average labor cost/time on a rebuild? I'd just like to hear anybodys estimates, or how long it took them, so I can get an idea of what this all is going to run me, time and money-wise? (then I get to figure out how long it'll be until I can afford to get the work done!)

Thanks again
Taylor

Sorry I just posted the list alone, I was short on time last night.

Anyway, call around and see what their lead time is and ask about their experience on that particular engine.

Bob Danielson at Bob's Machine Shop has been in business in the same location since the mid-70's. It's not a huge shop but he's not a Bull shooter. Bob will tell it like it is! Very refreshing these days.

Valley Head Service in Chatsworth is very good but a further distance than you had requested. You may want to call them for a referral though.

Edit: I forgot about H&H! www.handhantique.com/

Call them for Ford information. They are in La Crescenta, very close to Pasadena, just off the 210 Freeway at Foothill Blvd.

I've been working my tail off the last month paying off the credit card and saving up for a rebuild... Called most of the shops I could find, but all run $3k+. Found Larry's Performance shop in Montebello. Going to contact them and see what's up. They're offering about $2K for a full rebuild with a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty. Anyone gone through these folks, or have any info on them? Always skeptical on good deals, but if the warranty turns out to cover it, I'm much less worried (and might end up a little less broke)... http://www.larrysperformance.com/

Thanks all

Bill's Auto Repair in Orange, CA has to be one of the best garages around. Bill is a no nonsense guy, not prone to chit-chat or BS...and works on mostly older Fords...meaning...the pre computer age.

Many members of SoCal Galaxies take their cars to him.

He did a bunch of work on my 68 XL...it was done on time...I stress...on time, and the prices, while not cheap...are very competitive. 1-714-639-3410 is his number. He also does engine swaps, will build you a specific motor...etc.

I ended up going with Larry's Performance shop in Montebello. There internet offer was $1695 complete, plus $150 for a 5 year/60,000 warranty. Their website says it hasn't been updated since 2002, so I guess that was an old price, but talked them into going for it. Jim over there was really cool and was showing me around and letting me check out the other projects. Getting a full rebuild with an RV cam. I'll let ya'all know how it goes. Getting it back this week... Can't wait!

Update

Larry's did a great job. After replacing a cracked head and other misc parts, ended up running about $2400 out the door for a 400 that's got more ***** than I expected. The RV cam made all the difference. Still only have the 2bbl and stock exhaust, but it feels better than ever. Sadly my C6 went out, so now I'm digging myself further into debt rebuilding that with a shift kit. Never ends...

Thanks for the update. Let us know how the C6 rebuild goes. Put a 4V and intake on that 400 and feel the power!

After I pay off the 400 & C6 rebuild, then I get to do the fun stuff like 4bbl & headers...
