Question Aftermarket speaker crossovers??

Hi everyone! I am fairly mechanically inclined, but when it comes to electroncis, I am lost! I am going to put some new speakers in my doors and am finding that a lot of the higher end component speakers that I am looking at have these crossovers. What do they do? How do you hook them up? Where would you mount them if you put the speakers in the doors?? If I have to, I can take it to mickey shorr or car tunes, but Id like to save the installation cost.
Thank you in advance!!

The crossovers filter the different sound frequencies so that the tweeter only plays the highs and the actual speaker plays the mids an lows. this helps prevent distortion. as to where to mount them it depends on what vehicle there going in.

Provided the tweeter will be installed in the door - the easiest (not the best IMO) place to mount the x-over is in the door. You are able to simply connect the factory +/- to the input terminal and then run the output +/- to each driver. I recommend wrapping the x-over with trunk liner/carpet to reduce rattles and securing it to the door in an area where there is a void in the door panel.

The alternative (better IMO) is to mount the x-over inside the vehicle. Pros - less chance of moisture, easier access for adjustments and/or replacement. Cons - having to run the input wires to the x-over and TWO sets of output wires through the door jamb.

Good luck with your new speakers!
