Wide White Wall needed

As a visual prop only, I need (1) wide white wall tire. It is to be used as a pretend spare tire. The rim I have is a 15", so I need a 15" tire with virtually any width. It does not need to hold air as I can put a tube in it. I do need the white wall to be in good shape and to be anywhere from 2" to 3" wide. If you have a wide white wall just sitting around in the way, let me know how much you want for it. Thanks, Jag

If no luck, I think Coker sells a stick on whitewall, or something to that effect.

I know JC Whitney used to sell a whitewall paint made for making your own wide whites. We bought some for the LaSalle when I was kid. Worked pretty well, lasted for years.

If I have any wide whites left around here, they'd be pretty old and cracked, probably mounted on a wire wheel and wouldn't likely hold up to being dismounted and remounted again. But I'll look...

Surprise, there has been several threads on this - all whitewall tires have a wide whitewall, they cover it up with rubber to make the narrow whitewall. Several members have removed this to make their own wide whitewalls in the modern sizes.

Clint, I have seen this done in Reno at the auction. I wonder if it's any cheaper than buying a new tire. Also, I have never come across a shop that advertised this process. Do you have an idea of who might do it? Jag

I may get lucky and find a tire at Pleasanton on Saturday. If not, maybe a company that trims out the whitewall. Thanks, John

I have 4 of them. You can have all 4 and wheels that they are mounted on. Came off my 56 Ranchwagon. I was going to take them to the dump. I live in Placerville.

That's good news Larry. I did not have any luck at Pleasanton. Is at least one of them in fairly good shape? I'll take all four of them just to keep them from being thrown out. When would be a good time to drive down and get them? If you PM me with your phone number, I'll call you and get directions. Thanks, Jag

Good news. Larry had exactly what I needed. There is minimal cracking on the tire that I am sure I can dress up. Thanks for the help Larry. And Larry has a killer truck too. Thanks for the help Larry. Jag

That's good, 'cause the ones I have are 16 inch, mounted on DPCD rims. And not in the best of shape.

Glad I could give them to some one who could use them. Looking forward to seeing your cars and truck, John. Keep us posted on the up coming events. Thanks.
