'57-60 stock battery tray
I haven't been able to sort out a couple different battery trays I've seen for the '57-60 series trucks. My '59 catalog shows a removable square panel on the right (driver's) side of the box and the triangular panel on the left. The one I have in my truck now has triangular panels on both sides. LMC Truck has good pictures of the various series trays in their catalog, with the '57-60 matching the one in my book, but with no square side panel available.
My real problem is I can't i.d. the one I have now (maybe '61-64?) and don't have a hold-down to fit it.
Any help out there for my obviously rampant confusion?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Aug-02 AT 11:14 PM (EST)]I have what I believe to be the original battery tray from my 57 F100. It does not look like any in the LMC book or any other catalog. It does look like the ones that I have seen rusting in the salvage yards. I do not believe that a repoduction is available for the 57 or 58 - 60. The closest thing I have found would be to take the tray from a 71 Mustang 27 series battery (judging from catalog pictures only) and spot weld it to my 57 brackets. If any one knows of a company that has the tray for the 57 I'd like to know. There are several that claim to have them but when I called them they did not measure up! The 57 used a 29 or 31 series battery.
The 57 did not have any side panels that I know of. A 59 I recently saw did not either.

Mac's catalog has the battery tray you need. It mounts on the passenger side firewall in the stock 57-60 mounting configuration. You can also try Little Dearborn in Minneapolis, they may have it in stock and they will be able to answer any questions that you may have regarding which one is correct.

Hi Wosborn,
This is probably the same picture you have. It comes from the '59 truck parts and accessories catalog.
According to the catalog, the square removable panel on the driver's side (refered to as a shield, and labeled as # 10746) was used on the F-750 and up, and not on pickups.
Also, the catalog list two seperate assemblies for pickups:
B9C 10732-A (6 or 8 cyl.)
B7C 10732-D (6 or 8 cyl. used with 70 amp. dash mounted battery only)

Hope this helps.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Aug-02 AT 07:37 PM (EST)]Hi Kenny,
Was there a difference in trays between 57 58 59 60. My tray does not have a triangular piece on either side. It has a 3/4 to 1" lip that runs around the lip and that is all. It is also the same color as the firewall wich is factory paint. This is what I have seen on all others that I have seen (both of them LOL). So what is the deal Kenny? Am I crazy or what? I hope you see the picture below.

Hi Charles,
I don't think you are crazy at all. In fact, I'm leaning toward believing there were different trays as well. I saw a 1960 that had a different tray altogether than my '59 has.
There's also a '57 F-500 in a salvage yard not far from my house. I believe the battery tray was in pretty bad shape last I saw it but next time I'm there, I'll take a look and see if it resembles yours just for the sake of comparison. I can post a pic of it as well if that will help.

Sounds like Charles may have an early model tray in his truck. All the '53 and newer trucks appear to have one or two sides with the triangular support. The one currently in my '59 is probably original for a '60. The impression in the bottom of the tray looks like the '61-'64, but mine has the triangular support on both sides, and a lip that is designed to wrap over the lower lip of the battery to hold it down (like most new model cars).
I was going to post a pic, but it seems like too much work
