Can Warped Rotors Cause Vibration?

Have a 2004 XLT F250 SD SuperCrew 4x4 with the FX$ off road package. I have had a vibration in the front that happens at 62mph and 72mph(you can feel it other times but most prounced at those speeds and when making high speed long swooping turns) you can feel the vibration throught the gas pedal and directly under the driver floorboard not in the wheel. Taking it out of drive does nothing to change it. Vibration vibrates the whole cab. Just enough where you can see the center console moving side to side. This all started when the dealer ground my front rotors. Had new tires put on since. Had the factory Generals on it before that but the vibration was still present with them. Dealer tried to force balance the tires but were unable to do so because of a bead saver on the New Goodyear silent armor tires. Tires balanced, front end alignment done, upper and lower right ball joint replaced(went from sealed bearings to a grease fitting type). Driveshaft replaced. Shimmy shock in the front replaced and the vibration is still there. It has changed a little, but still there. Dealer does not have a clue. I told them "if the rotors are out of round they could cause a vibration? Svc Mgr said "NO WAY" What do you guys think? Any help on the cause of the vibration? The list on vibration causes that I compiled from this site are....1.Carrier bearing problem, 2.U Joints, 3.Angle of driveline, 4.Rear end ring and pinion, 5.Left upper and lower ball joints. I'm going to take it to a different dealer and see if they can help. I think the rotors might be the problem. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!

That's an interesting one....have you checked the wheel bearings or hubs, front and rear? Rotors will only give you a vibration during braking, and if you have tire balance/road force issues you would feel it all the time at certain speeds (not just during turns). The fact that you only feel this during turns is the reason I think it could be your wheel bearings or hubs. Does this happen when making those long turns left or right, or both? If it's more pronunced in either right or left turns, I would start with that side wheels bearings, or hubs, i"ve heard that some of these hubs go bad pretty quick (rarely), especially if you are running bigger tires than stock. Are you running stock size tires? Try that, and see what happens, I know those parts are expensive, and throwing parts sucks but sometimes its the only way to releive these problems. Is your truck under warranty still?

well it could be form the truck lifted...if it is...but i would say that warped rotors in my experiance can cause vibration also...your local tire/brake shop should be able to tell if they are pretty quickly, i'd try that next, anouthr thing i have experianced is the rear is the colpret when the front shakes we expect a front problem, but i have heard it be loose rear lug nut and rear drive shaft

Had a drive shaft come loose on a truck thought it was the front end for a cuple days and then going down the hiway it sheared the bolts puncured my gas tank and snapped in half...but that vibration changed with the throttle

Warped rotors are only going to cause vibration during braking (Trust me I know...mine are currently warped, just need to replace with better rotors) I would have the tires rechecked for balance. Have a reputable tire shop do it. Your U joint shoulndt be the issue unless you have it in 4 wheel drive. Bearings might be bad. Do you have auto hubs? If so, one might be engaged and the other not.

Truck is still under warranty...24k miles. I have the auto hubs. Tires were balanced at the tire shop then rebalanced 2 weeks later at the dealer. No change in vibration. I don't under stand if the dealer thinks it's the tires and they can't force balance them why don't they swap them out and see if the problem still occurs? Truck is not lifted, it is totally stock. When the vibration occurs it occurs in all 3 running straight, long sweeping turns to the left and the right. I'll make sure on the way home today. Tires a 265's stocks are 235 but I had the same problems when I was running the stock Generals. Thanks for all the info. Keep it coming.

If your rotors are warn and have been machined, they may have re warped if they were shaved to far down. Also, you will feel viration from a warped roter if any caliper slide pins are not well lubed and the caliper is not releasing properly on one side. I would also check wheel bearings and re check those ball joints. You may have sticky ***** (joints that is)! A bad ball joint can cause a lot of stuff and excascerbate wheel bearing and rotor issues....

ford 8n47,I have a 2007 f250 4x4 and have had my truck at the dealer about 3 weeks total for a very similiar problem. They shimmed the driveshaft, forced balanced my tires(which they found 1 bad one)Continentals. They gave me 4 tires and rims off of another f250,they were 17 inch rims(I have 18)and bf goodrich rugged terrains. They made my vibration go from starting at 40 mph,to 45 mph-up to 55 or 60mph.The bf goodrich's are a much better tire I think. But,now next wednesday there bringing in a Ford Rep.If he can't figure anything out I may see about asking for another ride.1500 miles and $42,000 later for what?

Warped rotors cause vibration while braking. Maybe bad hub. Hope dealer figures it out for you.

Hey Crazy....sounds like you and I have the same problems almost EXACTLY. The dealer told me after the 4th time and 21 days "we have improved on the vibration and there is nothing more we can do" So another words they said yes, the vibration is still there but oh well. LIVE WITH IT. You probably can lemon law yours. I can not lemon law. I just want the truck fixed. No matter what happens Ford wins. It just sucks they will not back up their product. I'm going to another dealer to see if they can help. THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO.

Yep it does. But before you go to and see the Ford rep. write down all the things it can be from this post, from the U joints to the rear end. Give him the list and tell him to check it all out. Where are you located in PA? I'm in Fayette County. Private message me if you want to know more details about the truck. Let me know what they say about yours.

Adding to problems.....

The vibration starts as a low rumble at 30-40.....seems worse when the truck and the weather are cold. At 52 you can feel it a little, it's a low rumble that comes from the front left of the truck, runs up the gas pedal and into my leg and hip then into my stomach. The console starts to shake a little. I can not tell you what the passenger side feels like. Vibration gets stronger at 62mph and seems to get worse making sweeping turns to the left at 62mph and 72mph. Applying the brake at those speeds produces a real mild but feel-able shimmy in the steering. When the dealer replaced the right upper and lower ball joints and the front shimmy shock it did impove on the vibration, but it is still there. It seems mild at times but there are times when it shakes my water in the cup holder. The vibration also seems like it is made worse after I hit a bump or dip in the road. Any help on these new symptoms?

Ford8n47,the big engineer from Ford came to look at my truck. The dealer says his equiptment is much more able to pick out problem areas. So he says the rear driveshaft and some flange, maybe some other parts also that I missed, were off at 5,000ths of whatever the reading is supposed to be.They disassembled the rear driveshaft and took it for a ride. They said the vibration was gone,we'll see. They won't have the parts till nextweek,so they gave me a rental truck.I'll be in touch.
