oil pan clearance problem. 48 f-1

I have a 48 f-1 with a 1968-69 289 and c4 tranny that was in the truck when i bought it. the oil pan is banged up form bouncing off the stock suspension. i want to know if there is a rear sump oil pan for this year engine for when i do the rebuild??? would i need a special pick up or anything else??? i really dont want to put a new front end in it...

thanks, RC

There are a couple rear sump pans for the small block. The 5.0 Mustang pan is probably the most common. You will need the oil pump pickup to go with it. It might also require changing one main cap bolt to one with the studded extension to secure the pickup tube.

the vans from at least 75-91 used a rear sump oilpan as well as 4x4 trucks wit 302's. Be sure to grab whatever pickup tube went with it.

You've got a 289 and the dipstick is in the block?!? Uh, that isn't right. ALL of the 289's and 302's and 351W's until the late 70's had the dipstick in the timing cover. The Fox body motors in the early years had the dipstick in the left side of the oil pan. In the mid-80's the blocks were cast with a dipstick hole in the block on the left side. If your dipstick is in the left side of the block, you've got something other than a 289.
