220 volt circuit

220 volt circuit

Someone told me you didnt have to run a separate 220 circuit for my air conditioner as long as I had 2 differant 110ac outlets in the samr room. I could sorta like join then together and have my 220volts,,Makes sence to me afterall 110 and 110 added together do =220...

If the two outlets are on seperate circuits, and taken from opposite sides of the breaker box, then yes you can do that. It's called a "cheater cord".

It's dangerous, it's a fire hazzard, and your insurance more than likely won't cover you if something goes wrong.

It's always better to do things correctly, and have it last and be reliable. Monkey-rigging is fine for a quick solution to an immediate problem, if it's temporary.
