Volare Suspension Cost?

John,

I have visited your site and it's one of the reasons I decided on this suspension. Thanks again for putting this information out.

PG,

Welcome to FTE. This thread is 4 years old and I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday much less a link from 2002. I suggest you start a new thread and ask your specific questions about the Volare suspension. Sorry, but I'm not sure what link you are refering to...

It was about 22 years ago that I put a VolarieTransverse Independent Suspension under my 56 F100......at that time there was much less info about all of it and one of the things that I "heard" was that the Torsion bars came in 2 different diameters ; thus 2 different strengths. One was supposedly for v8 models and the other for 6s. Now, 22 years later, I am asking: Is that true about the different diameters?

I have heard that but not encountered it personally. Supposedly, some of the Dodge Diplomats and Plymouth Grand Furys which were marketed as police cars and taxi cabs had some kind of heavy duty suspension package which MIGHT have included a larger diameter torsion bar, heavy duty shocks, springs, brakes, and a larger diameter anti-roll bar. I have been unable to verify that. When I was looking for parts for my 87 5th Avenue suspension, especially shocks, the parts houses I visited found no listings for any special parts for these vehicles. You might want to visit www.dippy.org which is a website devoted to the Dodge Diplomat and it's Mopar siblings. Perhaps they can give you an answer.

Welcome to FTE!
before you decide on the Volare transplant, I'd suggest you read thru this thread (It's long but worth it.):
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...hlight=jag+ifs

The Jag IFS in a 50 is not only easy but a very good choice.

Twenty two years? Maybe you should be a little more patient.

Seriously though, I've read that too. But after about five years of Volare research, I still haven't seen a PIC or part number. It is either a fairly rare squad car option, or just urban legend. A 225 CI slant six is a heavy pig that actually weighs more than some smallblock V8s. Makes it even less likely Mopar messed with heavier bars for anything less than a bigblock V8.

I would bet that a call to Bob at Bobco... would get you a clear definitive answer on the torsion bar question... He is the guru of Volare stuff

There are at least 6 on ebay right now, complete cars for <500.00. Most seem to be concentrated in Fl tho.
You might try www.car-parts.com
or watch your local craigslist or even cars.com
Except for car-parts you'd be best off looking for an entire car than just a front end. Also might want to check with the bigger rod builders in your area, the rear suspension is popular for street rods, but they tend to ignore the fronts, they may know of (or have) some parts cars the rear has been stripped out of.

I know what you mean. Apparently, Jags are found more in metropolitan areas and in warmer climates. I hardly even see them on the road here in northern NH much less in salvage yards...
