Dusty, welcome to FTE and old Ford trucks. I have a '48 that I use as a daily driver and enjoy it.
You have a nice pickup from the looks of your photos. I never managed to get more that a before and after shot of mine in the gallery, but I did a complete frame-up rebuild to near stock condition over a 3 year period.
Looking at your pictures, I believe someone swapped a 51-52 box onto your truck - the smooth bed sidewalls and square stake pockets are the giveaway details. Also the 48-50 bed floors had a sheetmetal covering over the wood subfloor. In mid-50 they went back to exposed wood and skid strips. Otherwise they are very similar.
The box is made up of an iron sub-frame that the sidewalls are riveted to. Into the sub-frame are welded 2 center crossmembers. Then there is front crossmember and a rollpan at the rear that are riveted to the sub-frame. The bed wood lays on top of the 4 crossmembers with metal skid strips to hold them down.
I'll try to get a picture of mine on the gallery soon. Ask if you have any specific questions. I've built my 48 box twice - was rearended back in July. The specifics of how the 51-52 stakepockets and rollpan attach are beyond me.

You can be sure I will be back to you for some more info..Let me know when you have uploaded the pics.
Like I said in my gallery I have not actually received the truck yet so I guess there will be a few other problems.

I agree with mtflat (does that have something to do with
montana?) that you have a 51-52 bed there. The stake pockets
should be spotwelded on the bed sides and the rollpan simply
slides into the lower part of the stake pocket and is held in
place with tailgate hinge bolts and bed strip bolts. At least thats
how mine is. You might just go on any search engine and look
for pictures of your particular truck and really be surprised
at how much you can find.

Hi Tim;
Boy, I sure assumed incorrectly! I thought mtflat referred to "EMPTY FLAT", as in an apartment with only you in it, everyone else moved out, and hence you can concentrate totally on old Ford trucks, if you so desired.
Regards...........Keith.

Hi Keith, I've wondered sometimes if anybody read it that way - guess I've been in the west long enough that I forgot what else it could mean back east. If you check my gallery you'll see that my handle was originally MTflat but one day (back when things were case-sensitive) and I couldn't access the forum I stupidly re-registered as mtflat........
This place is anything but empty, and the garage is too full of kid's projects to get work done on my own. Right now there's a 1982 'stang getting a 302/C4 transplant - it belongs to my son-in-law. And then there's a 1970 fastback 'stang that belongs to my 17 year old - pieces of it are scattered all over the property. It's supposed to get a 429 that sits in the garage. Also I keep falling over a ZXR6 that owns my oldest son who is away at college.
Working exclusively on old trucks is a nice dream - in addition to the '48, there's a 73 4X4, the '77, the '86 4X4 - all Ford of course. Life is good!
