Do you want the actual firing order or where the cylinders are located?

reason I asked for the firing order is because I got a P0306 Code and description for that is "Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected." Isn't spark plugs firing order corresponds to each cylinder? If not, I need the location of the cylinder. Also, If you have an idea of which I need to look on first, for the issue I'm having, I'll really appreciate that. The vehicle all of sudden started shaking and lost power. I was even pulling a boat when it happened. It runs so bad in low rpm and will smooth a little bit out and be driveable with high rpm (atleast 2500 rpm). Went to AutoZone today and they lend me their scanner and I got P0306 "Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected." I haven't start doing anything yet, but leaning towards the spark plug, then the coil. But I can't even find the spark plug and don't have a trace as this engine (V8 5.4) don't seem to have a regular spark plug wires. If someone can also help me locate where the plugs are, it will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

The plugs are under the cop's, which are coil packs that are on top of each plug. Also, there are no plug wires, just the wires whic attach to the cop's. The plugs are just outside each fuel rail on each side. It can be rather tricky to get to the plugs. Good luck.

I would bet anything that it is your coil....I had the same thing happen a few yrs ago and that is exactly what it was...it was the #8 coil...a real p-i-n-t-a spot to boot...you just have to take off the fuel rail and can access them...not so bad really ...took me 30 minutes and had never done it before...

One more quick question, based on the spark plugs/Coils firing order, is the #6 would mean Cylinder 6? Because code I'm getting at calls for "Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected" and I wanna make sure that I will be working on the right plug and coil. Thanks and hope to hear from you guys soon.

Hi RacerGuy,

From this firing order:

4 8
3 7
2 6*
1 5
Front of the vehicle.

Please verify if this correct. Thanks.

You do not have to take the fuel rail off to change plugs or COP.

Yeah I'd bet it's the coil. Mine did the same thing except the 2 cylinder and I replaced the coil and no problems since. Just remember when you replace it, you can disconnect the negative cable on your battery for 10 minutes to reset the SES light.

Thanks Guys! I just fixed the problem and yes, it was the "COP" # 6. Cleared the code and when i started the engine can tell right away that problem was gone. Drove it few miles in the freeway and i'm glad that it is back to normal now. Again, thanks for all your input.

I am having the same problem on my truck. 2000 f150 v8 5.4. Code read that cylinder 2 is misfiring and I can definately feel it. I think I might have had some bad gas in it plus the tank was just about empty when this started. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or if it was just a coincidence in timing? Any tips or pointers you can give me before I dig in? Are the plugs worth the difficulty of getting them out, or should I just take it in? Thanks... Tom.
