1951 F3 Truck

I have a 51 F3 I am parting out and a gentleman is interested in the rear end and wants to know what the gear ratio is and I don't know how to find out, it is a "split" rearend kind of like a banjo rearend I guess. Is there a reference or does anyone know what it might be? It had an original 6 cylinder engine and I think it has a 4 speed tranny. Also, I want to be fair on a price but have no idea what to charge him for it. It is heavy and I will have to hire someone to remove it and put it on a pallet for him. I want to be fair and it would be nice to get the rearend on the road. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

It's either a 4.11 or 4.86. Do you happen to have a tag on one of the bolts? 37/9 would be the 4.11 and 34/7 would be the 4.86.

You could always pull the rear pan off and count the teeth on the gears.

There isn't a great market for old rear ends. I'd ballpark a price in the $75-125 range.

51 F3 rearend

Mtflat....thanks for your response. I appreciate it. When you say to pull the pan off I cannot, it appears to bolt up from the sides. It is unusual looking and not at all like my 52F1 rearend which I think is a 3.92 according to the manual.

thanks,

If you can get someone to buy it take it run, I was happy to give mine away. Not many people are looking for those rear ends. Most people switch to a 9" from a slightly newer truck.

I still have the original one from my 48 F-3. It's free to anyone who wants to pick it up....

Oh, yeah, what was I thinking? You have the banjo rear in the F3.

Also, FYI, I think it was Ross who determined the manual has a mis-print about the F1 ratios. IIRC, the actual ratio is 3.73 with 4.27 being optional.
