62 Delivery Sedan

62 Delivery Sedan
I have a chance to buy a 1962 Falcon Delivery Sedan. Its running and has a 144 6cyl.,power rear glass, 2 speed auto trans and a folding rear seat. I have never seen one before and according to what I have read, they only made like 1600 in 62. I can get it for 500 bucks.
How available are engine parts? I've never seen a 144 before. I guess the rest of the parts would be the same as the Falcon/Ranchero/Wagon of that year.
Anyone else ever seen one of these?

the 144 is the baby brother engine to the 170 and 200.
it is not a bed engine, but underpowered in my opinion.
on a good note though, you can drop a 170 or 200 rite in the 144's place. the 200 is the better swap, it will give you plenty of power. and another good upgrade is to dump the 2 speed and upgrade to a C/4 3 speed auto trans. with this engine-trans combo, you will have a car that can run highway speeds without any problems.
oh, and by the way, $500 is a very good price for a sedan delivery. is it all there??

Ford made the Sedan Delivery on the Falcon chasis from 1960 to 1965. You are correct in thinking parts fron the Ranchero / Wagon will interchange. The Delivery was not much more than a 2 door wagon with the side glass removed and panels installed. I have ownes a couple of them, '64 and '65, and never seen a "real" delivery with a rear seat. The ones I have had, and seen, had a plywood shelf that leveled the rear floor. A check of the VIN would confirm whether the rig is a 2 door wagon or a real sedan delivery. As Tom stated $500. is a very good price for a complete delivery.
If interested, the small block V-8 will bolt in using the '63-'65 Falcon or Comet mounts and brackets.
Good Luck,
Roger Carter
