Oppse - I'm I Liable?

I ran over the water meter in my front yard and the box and meter broke - now I have a rolling river of water in my yard. So the question is, am I responsibile for the repairs?

lol...that is a good question.

is it obvious that you ran over it? how far from the road is your meter?
is it feasible that someone other than you could have hit it?

there is always the option of playing stupid....
how long has the meter been there? how deep is it (OBVIOUSLY NOT TOO DEEP..LOL)

can i be made to look like someone has not rode over it?

Yes, it's obvious - tracks running right over it in the grass and no way to hide them becasue the yard was wet from washing the X.
The meter is about 50 feet from the road.
No one else could have done it.
It's beeb there since the house was built in '84 - to the best of my knowledge, it's never been replaced.
The top of the meter is barely 3 inches from the inside of the lid.

well i say you are responsible for the meter, but you might be able to turn it in on your insurance if you dont have the money to pay out of pocket>

Yeah - I told the guy what happened, but he said there was probably a leak anyhow and that softened the groud and cause the meter box to sink. A different employee may have had a different diagnosis.

Hope it broke the line before the meter instead of after, you might still get a surprise when the water bill shows up.

Both sides of the meter - but the h20 should follow the path of least resistance, which would be before the meter.
