propane conversion

i have a 75 ford f-250. just wondering what it would take to convert it to propane. Ive also heard about a propane/gas combo and that u can run both depending on if you need more power or not. what would it roughly cost and what kind of power lose might be expected. and what kinds of modifications need to be made.

it all depends on how many modifications you want to do what it takes... the absolute minimum is a mixer, evaporator, lockoff, coolant splitters for the evaporator, vapor line, service line, and a tank- can be had at propaneguy.com for about 600 dollars. you should get your distributor recurved and advance the timing a bit- encouraged but not absolutely necessary. if you dont modify the engine to run propane exclusively by increasing compression youll lose somewhere around 10% power and mileage. if you make it a dedicated propane engine then you can actually gain power and get about the same mileage if not slightly improved
