1954 F-100 rear e-brake
I have a new rear emergency brake cable for my 1954 Ford F-100. I see where the cable enters the drums but have no idea where it connects to the shoes. Does anyone have any info on this? I called up the people who I bought the cable from and they stated that they had no instruction. This is a stock brake cable and a stock rear. The cable is operated by the handle on the left side of the dash, not like the bigger trucks with the lever on the trans cover. Thanks for any info

Hi Al--wish I could help. You might call a tech line from Dennis Carpenter.I also have a brake problem.I have a 56 F600-and with the truck just running after 15 yrs.,I need some brakes. The pedal pushes easily with 1 hand to floor and returns up.No resistance at all.I opened up master cylinder and poured about a 1/2 quart of fluid.Pumped brakes--nothing----it sat for 15 yrs and I cannot see any leaks. It has 20 inch wheels and I cannot break them loose,--I will try again--to look at wheel cylinders,---WHAT ARE SYMPTONS FOR BAD MASTER CYLINDER? --AL--hope you the best!!!

thanks -I guess I will figure it out!I have a manual--but don't like to read!!!!ha ha!!I just haven't worked on a 56 since I built a 56 F100 with a full frame-off and dodge charger drivetrain. It was my baby.30 YRS AGO and not as young as I used to be.FORGOT ALOT!!I wish I could find my old f100.My F600 is comin along fine--All primered and interior in,and running good.I figure I have 1800.00 in it so far.I love those rust-free southern trucks.I took it out yesterday for a ride and with no brakes--ON SIDE ROAD---and she cruised fine!!!Now for some brakes --I will be in heaven!!!

It could very well be a bad master cylinder after sitting for so long, also if the brake system was empty and alot fluid was added there will be air in the system that needs to be manually bled. Usually the air will slowly disappear with use but it should really be bleed to be safe by removing all the air from the brake system.

Thanks Skyfox
Wow Skyfox... I see what is missing now and how it should work. Thanks for the pics and info. Now for another question, I checked all the usual old truck suppliers (DC, Mid, Sac, CPP, MP, to name a few) and no one seems to sell this rear "shoe seperator" or other E-brake hardware. Any idea where I can get this part from. It does not matter to me if it is used or new.
Thanks

Nice pix Spyfoxx. As for the used parts, why not advertise in this sites want ads? They are free and AI bet there are 100 guys with these seting out in their back yard. Also, there is a big supplier in Riverside CA that sells used parts. Unfortunately, I can't remember his name. John's?? Anybody remember this guy? Good luck, Jag
