5w20 - 5w30???

Not a problem. Book calls for 5w20, but 10w30 or 5w30 weight won't cause a problem. The first number represents the actual "weight" of the oil. The second numbers tells you the weight at operating temp. The oil needs to be thin for cold starts but also needs to have thick characteristics at operating temps. Seems counterintuitive because we expect liquids to thin with mixing and heat.

Actually the first number is the "winter" grade and corolates to cold temp pumpability
kinda like the 5w part acts like a 5 wt oil when cold the "hot" end number like the 30 is the "grade" hot at 100C. So a 5w/30 Kinda pours like a 5wt when cold yet STAYS as thick as a 30wt when hot.

2003/5.4 - yep 5w-20 and 6 qts with the filter change. Also Walmart usually does have the best price. They also sell the oil in 5qt.(Yeah (5) Qt.) jugs. The only good thing is the jug has a clear line so you can get close on that last qt. Let me know if anyone finds better prices on MotorCraft parts!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Shows that 97-02 Expeditions should use 5w-20, both 4.6 and 5.4
