revving engine in neutral

Just got back from getting the emissions checked at the DMV. Passed with good results but my question is: Is it OK to rev the 7.3 to maximum for 2 to 3 seconds (pedal to the floor) 6 different times in neutral which I was instructed to do to check the emissions.? Isn't this kinda hard on the rods, etc? Or shouldn't I worried about it?

SOunds like a dyno run more than a DEQ test. I lived in OR some time ago and done remember having to rev that high. but what do we know, I am sure they change the rules all the time. but I think your concern if fair. I wouldn't want to do it to my motor, unless it was for a really hot chick and I was assured some bed time activiites. lol

It's ok, revving it a few times won't hurt. Your truck bounces off the rev limiter so it won't go too far to do damage.

Yes but if it does do damage you will be stuck with the bill....Been there done that with a tranny, they said that i had too many miles and they will only be liable for only 100 dollars. after that i also requested the old tailpipe sniffer idle check. We dont have emmisions here yet for diesels.

don't worry the ford proceedure for check for oil airation is running the engine full throttle in park for one minute. a couple blips won't hurt it on bit.

Thanks guys.. I guess the engine is pretty tough. Just want to take good care of it. Can not see why they can't use the computer port under the dash like they do on our Cougar but they say any vehicle over 8500 lbs they must use the revving test along with the tailpipe probe..

In my opinion, the rev limiter test is the dumbest idea...... ever. Sorry you have to put up with it.
