The old slippery slope......

Been thinking about options for a tuner/chip to enhance next years' camper towing season. I have my gauges, and have an AIS in the works and will be looking into some various exhaust options soon.

Anyway, every year, my wife and I drop off the kids at the grandparents house in NE TN and go to Asheville, NC to hang out for a few days without the kids.

Hmmm.....as I remember, Jody Tipton is in Asheville......

Anyway, as I understand it, it would not be a great idea to match up the stock 4R100 with a DP-tuned 7.3.

So, my question is.....In the interests of budgetary constraints, would getting a new valve body from BTS or another respected manufacturer buy me enough latitude with the tranny to allow me to do something interesting with a tuner?

I don't forsee myself coming up with enough cash for a completely re-worked trans, so I'm trying to find a reasonable way to do some upgrades...

Thanks

How extreme of a tune are you planning on? From what I understand DP-tuners tranny programming is some of the best available. It may not be neccessary for any other mods.

Not really looking for very extreme at all, actually....

I'd like just maybe a couple settings that would bump up my hp a bit and my torque 150 ft/lb or so....

That ought to tame that travel trailer....

I don't pull sleds or race or anything... just some extra 'oomph' for towing would be good.

Guess I should give them a call and see if their tranny adjustments would be sufficient.

Talk to Jody about what tunes you are interested in. My tranny is all stock except for the Sonnax valve & spring shift kit. It's been working perfectly even in the 120 hp setting. I've been wanting to get a BTS, but I can't seem to trash my tranny fast enough.

BTW, I definately recommend seeing him personally. I'm glad I did.

Maybe just a little eh? Nothing extreme. Until you get just a little that is. When you feel what the truck does even with a 40, or 60 whatever tune, you will never want to drive it in the stock setting again. Mark my words. My truck is a dog on the stock setting now, I just never knew it before. I do have a TS chip but I also have that stupid diode in the tranny and just tear it up whenever I feel like it. The program will change the tranny shift profile as well.

Ahhh, the PMS is alive and well.
