Cailiper bolts loosining on there own
has any one ever had trouble with the bolts on the brake calipers backing out on there own? I have changed my brakes a couple of differnt times and i know that i put a good turn on them to make sure there tight but seems like a few weeks will go by and i would have a bolt loose and a calliper bouncing around making noise or just a bolt completley gone.. It has happend to me twice now.. Any body else experiance this .. lol

Yes! I lost one on the way to work, and it was the first time I changed the pads on my truck since I had bought it. It took a few months for it to work loose. I went back to Autozone and found out you are supposed to replace the bolts when you replace the pads. They kind of forgot to mention that to me, even though I saw it right on their screen when I went their to get replacement bolt. It basically was a notice to remind customer they are supposed to change the bolts at the same time as pads. So, needless to say I replaced all bolts.
You aren't re-using those bolts are you?

just after i got my truck like a year and a half ago one bolt on the passenger side caliper fell off somewhere, caliper scraped a little groove in the rim inside area, nuthin too bad, i got another brand new bolt for like $2 at ACE hardware. oh, use locktite and a good breaker bar to tighten them up securely, havnt had a problem since, i did think about drilling them for lock wire though, probably should one day huh... josh..

While this has happened to me I feel fortunate to keep the original hardware. I'm, confused how you are buying a grade 10.9 flange head M14 2.00X45mm bolt for 2.00, they are over $20 a bolt if you can locate them. If the dealer has them for cheap, great, I'll be getting one pretty quick. Asked our local parts places and trying to track bolts down is always a joy with them. Grade 8.8 are the cheap ones ($2.75 at our ACE) and if you are using them, well... you pushing your luck. It's the metric equivalent to putting a grade 3 where a grade 8 goes for those with SAE backgrounds. Good slam of the brakes and you might be wondering what happened.
