1999 F150 question?

I can buy a 1999 f150 ext cab with the 4.6 with 122k miles on it for 6500.00. My question is whether or not thats a good buy. I love fords, especially f150s. I was hoping to get some feedback from owners or even people in the same market. The truck is in perfect condition from the inside and out. How long do the 4.6s last if properly maintained. Is 122k alot of miles or does the 4.6 outlast that by far? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kevin

Sounds like a decent price. With regular oil changes these engines last forever...the modular engines have been known to outlast the transmissions in some cases. That truck has a long way to go before any major repairs. Atleast another 125K or more. Well maintained 4.6s and 5.4s have been known to exceed 300K miles without a rebuild.

I think that is a good price. I have a 1998 w/4.6 and I love it. My wife has a Expedition w/ a 5.4 I wish I had the power she has but she don't get as far on gas as I do..........LOL

That would be a good price in my area. As long as the truck has been taken care of, I usually don't worry about mileage.

GREAT! Thats good to know, another thing that is on my mind is the gas mileage. I am a college student and I had a 1998 Blazer that got about 18 mpg and I didnt mind that too bad. Is the 4.6 about the same or a little worse than that? Also what can I do to increase the mileage, besides loose my lead foot, and what would it cost to improve in the gas mileage?

I bought my 97 4.6 w/ 170000 miles and paid $6000 for it. I bought it a little over a year ago. In the year of owning I put about 20000miles on. Most of it's from going back and forth to school.

Thats one thing that I love about these trucks is that they hold there value. The only reason I can get the truck for that price is b/c it is a college girl tired of driving the truck that her daddy bought her so she is willing to go cheap. Works for me.

Go for it! I bought my '97 4.6 with 80K miles on it for $8800 a little over a year ago (when gas was still $1.30), and it was maintained perfectly by the origional owner.

i bought my 99 f150 ext cab 4.6L in oct 2005 for $8300 from a dealership (came out to be $10.5k after warranty n all the other crap) and had 94k miles on it. most of my driving is city driving, and i average 16-18 mpg, however i have gotten between 20-22 mpg on the highway, and a few times, with easy driving, ive gotten 18-20 city. its a good truck, i say buy it
