if its smoking when your trying to start its a good thing atleast its getting fuel.

double check the glowplug relay. how warm is it where your at? if it has a block heater plug it in. the tail should be somewhere round the front of the driverside frame rail. the block heater is on the driverside tward the back of the motor on the end of the oil cooler, above the oil filter.

with the new fuel filter it may be a little grumpy since theres some air in the system now. just keep them batteries charged as you try

NO STARTING FLUID!!! unless ya wanna big BOOM

white smoke usually means the glow plugs aren't working. double check the relay with a test light and verify the glow plug with an ohm meter. and easier yet plug the block heater in like barebackjake said

Try jumping the two big posts on the gp relay like you would on a starter.
Jump the two for about 15-20 seconds, jump in and try starting it.
I've had mine sound like its working (gp relay) but no start. I would jump the two post for a little bit and it start right up.
Hope you get er going!

Add a bunch of fuel additive in the tanks Stanadyne, Diesel Kleen ect. Old fuel can go bad or form algae.
Good luck! There's more help here when you need it. Let us know when she gets going.
