2 way or 3 way speakers

If I am just planning on replacing the trucks stock speakers -- should I go with 3 way speakers or 2 way?

2 ways are better. 3+ way speakers are a gimmick for mfr's to sell more speakers because they know that the majority think that more is better.

Well, technically 3 way's are better, but I doubt you'll beable to hear the difference. IF you're staying with factory speakers, look for high sensitivity rating.

I'm particular to DUAL brand speakers if I'm just running them off headunit power... I think most of theres are 3 ways

I like the 2 way component speakers, the combo speakers dont seem to sound as good.

Yes, but make sure the tweeters will fit. You may have to modify the hole to make some tweeters fit, but it is worth the trouble.

The basic stereo's dont have them but some of the upgraded one's do. The holes are there though and they are not large enough to fit some of the aftermarket brackets.

I'd get component 5x7 speakers front and back. Mount the 5x7's in the stock space and drill the door trim and mount the tweeters flush within 6 inches of the 5x7's. Not everyone is comfortable with permanantly adding a 1 1/2 inch hole in the door trim, however. But great sound imaging comes at a cost. I'll do this to my '06 sooner or later. My '01 had the tweeters mounted in the window sails. System sounded great.

I just used the holes that were already there, I was not willing to give up the look of the stock. I am peticular about the sound though.

Ok -- So this looks like what my setup is going to be...

Pioneer Avic-Z1 HU -- Should be here Monday
Rear Speakers - Infinity Reference6812cf 2 way speakers
Front Speakers - Infinity Reference6810cf 2 way componet system

I feel like this is the best speaker set up for under $350... Anyone think I should go a different route?

Also do you think I will get an "OK" amount of Bass out of this setup?

It will be "OK", but not great. Those 6x8s have a wide frequency response range but will perform best between 80 to 120 hz. I wouldn't run them at less than 80. Get a sub and let it take care of everything below 80. I think the Z1 lets you set the crossover points. Are you using an external amp? Infinity makes a good 6 channel amp. It's a little pricey and has a big footprint, but I like the fact you can power a whole system with a single amp. I use one to power my system in my mustang convertible (JL Audio components in front, Polk Audio 6.5 in the back and bridged 10" JL Woofer in the trunk with the amp).
