55 Flat bed ideas

You will be hard pressed to find an original Ford Script Flatbed / Stakebody bed. You will need to comb Craigslist and other sources to find one. You will actually have better luck finding a truck that still has the bed sitting on it that somebody doesn't want. I am pretty sure in 55 you could get the stakebody Ford Script bed, but they were more popular I believe on the F-250 and larger trucks. I don't have my 55 sales brochure in front of me, but that is what I remember reading in there.
I have done a lot of research on the Ford Script stakebodies, and nobody out there makes them anymore. There were 1-2 guys that made them, but they don't anymore due to lack of sustained interest from customers. So your only options are to wait and see if you can find one used somewhere, build your own wood framed stakebody bed, or get an aftemarket stakebody from one of your local suppliers like Stahl or Knapheide for example.

Yes, plans would be nice for sure. I guess I should have taken measurements and many pictures of the homemade wood stakebody that came with my truck before ripping it all off due to wood rot and rust ont he metal supports. Oh well, I will probably just design my own stakebody wood bed.

i know the one that came off my truck 49 f4 was as wide as the wheels and from the back of the cab it came out of the rear frame rails like 3-4 feet...id say go with what you have for messurments...wheel base and frame lenght and just keep the porportions in check...you should be able to use the factory bed mounts...good luck and post pics....maybe someone will use your plans for theres....

If I could jsut get measurements for the design of the bed frame supports, then I could easily build it up from there. I just want to make sure the frame is tall enough to handle 31" BFG AT tires.

I think you guys must have missed this the last time it went around. Too bad it wasn't too long ago.
I'm not exactly sure what differences there were between the Bonus Built Flat Beds and the Effie Flatbeds - if any - I would doubt there are many.
Bob Jones (Bobj49f2) has done a lot of research on the flatbeds as well, and actually published plans for one here on FTE.
Also, if you look in my new galleries (or on Bob's web site) you will see all the Salesmans Handbook Drawings, Spec Sheets, and Descriptions for every Flat/stake bed from F1 thru F6 including COE. Look in the "Salemans Handbook Scans" gallery.
Here are links to two of Bobs threads on Flatbeds - he's the guy in the know -as usual.
You may want to click on his name and go to "List all threads started by Bobj49f2" to see if there are more. These are just in the last month.

Just to wet your appetite, here are the three F1 (of the dozen or so F1-F6)flatbed scans in my gallery:
Have fun looking
