..well, to me at least.
Hey guys, I have finally landed a '57-'60 styleside shortbox that I've been wanting. It's pretty solid, but will really need alot of finesse to make a nice driver. HELP!
I'll have ALOT of questions for you guys, but at some point hope to be among those offering advice.
First question:
The previous owner claims that the truck was registered in Nevada since new.
Since the title I have (in fact, a Nevada title) is dated only from April of this year, I have no clue as to previous history.
I've tried to research the VIN online, but as you probably know, that only works for vehicles '81 and newer.
The VIN decodes as being a:
F= ford
10= f100
J= 223, 1 bbl
8= 1958
R= made in san jose, CA
...then 23581= ???
Anyway, here's a pic of the new baby.
She's still in Riverside, CA in storage, but will be here in PHX within the next couple of weeks.
Welcome to FTE. Looks like a very nice truck to begin a new project. The last numbers you listed from the VIN is the build number of your truck, number 23,581 built in that year.
The pic is actually pretty forgiving- she's a 20-footer for sure, but in great shape for a 50 year old vehicle.
...and like you said- a great starting point.
***Would it be possible to contact the Nevada BMV to find out about the trucks registration record??
You could try, but they may not be willing to give out or research the info you want or there may be a charge for it?
Nice truck and welcome!
PS: a "20 footer" is 1K x better than most here have started with.

Welcome & a Pip of a truck.
Viewed her 1st on e-Bay, believed her a tick pricey, but the Pix the Seller had on-line made her look reasonably clean.

Cool, that paint scheme is really nice. I love 2 tone paint. If you belong to Triple A you can give them a call. Tell them you're thinking about buying the Vehicle and they can do the vin search for you. I just registered my Truck today and I listened to one of their employee's explain a bunch of stuff in regards to an abandoned vehicle he was interested in purchasing. She gave him the whole history of the vehicle based on the VIN number. Don't know if it went back passed 81 though.

2) Re-contour original brake pedal to fall on the LEFT side of the column
3) ECI Front caliper adaptor kit for '57-'60 ford trucks (includes adaptive bearings/ races)
4) '79-'89 F-150 Front Rotors
5) '71-'16 Impala/ Delta 88/ Electra/ Bonneville Front Calipers
6) New brake 3/16" lines and hoses throughout.
7) Rear axle is supposedly a Thunderbird 9" (it's wider than stock and has the late model 9" housing)...will at least update wheel cylinders and hoses for safety. New master cylinder is equipped for front disc/rear drum.
I hope this sounds right. If it doesn't, please let me know where the holes are.
Thanks.
