Since 57's were the first to come stock with a 9" the rear axle may be stock. Check out the articles and specs tab at the top of the page for articles on rear axle swaps, they will give the dimensions of the various 9" axles Ford produced to check your against.
You might check out MP brakes www.mpbrakes.com for info and parts for your disk brake swap. If you go FDs do yourself a favor and add power as well. If you are sticking with the beam axle in front the Toyota power steering conversion is also something I'd suggest giving strong consideration to.

Nice Truck, Why would you want to recontour the stock brake pedal to the left side of the steering column?

Probably for the same reason I've been contemplating replacing mine w/ one from the same year T-Bird that mounts on the left side of the S.C.
As the Brake Pedal is less than a 1/2" from the Throttle Pedal, your foot can slip off the B.P. fully ingaging the T.P. causing an accident or if you've not correctly adjusted your brakes, you will wind up appling the Throttle as well as the Brakes as that B.P. sinks ingaging the other @ the same time if your foot is slightly off to the side.

OK- here's the story on the truck so far I believe:
Has been a western truck, but not sure of the particulars of who, where, and the all the dates at this point
It has one coat of paint on it since new- the original color is Aqua
At some point, probably about 20 years or so ago, somebody swapped in a (gulp, forgive me Henry) small block chevy v8 with gm alternator and power steering pump, Turbo 400 transmission, and a power steering setup. The guy also lowered it a bit, set it up for towing, and added a pretty nice set of buckets from possibly a 4th gen Mustang, and a stereo.
The guy that I bought it from in Ca has had it since April. I believe that he tinkered with it and gave up on it. From being underneath it, i can see that it has a newer professionally done daul exhaust system, brand new starter/solenoid, fuel pump, and shocks all the way around. He also claims that he replaced the alternator, and the belts look new.
It stills runs a bit rough (I don't think he ever got the points set up right), pulls pretty good when you try to stop, and the power steering isn't working very well if at all, and using aftermarket shifter is like trying to stab rocks at the bottom a of a mud puddle.
I'm not planning on restoring it, but I'm gonna DRIVE IT!!
The straight axle in front stays, so does the 5 on 5 bolt pattern, it's just getting some power brakes.

it reminds me of trying to drive a model A.
.....it's pretty tight between the steering column and tranny tunnel in certain situations.
maybe once I get some decent brakes, and tame the motor, it'll be driveable w/one foot. It definitely took two feet to coax it on and off the trailer.

Yessir-I looked and looked around here for one of these trucks-
A guy down the street has a '59 for sale. It's a long bed, work truck with all the original mechanics--hasn't run in 10+ years, and has at least 150,00 miles. He won't take any less than $1000 for it.
There are three other listed locally- they're nice, original trucks, but the prices on them are $4500-$6000. The days of picking these trucks up for $500 is pretty much gone- around here, at least.

I think it's cool you're keeping the solid axle. I don't think I'd ever convert mine, I'm not sold that it's all that much better Like Overhead Valves, IFS is just a fad, I'm sure. The only modern amenity I want to add is a stereo system and modern seatbelts.

Yeah, the bumper isn't correct, is it? i would like to find a grille bar and front bumper from a '60.
A fair amount of '57-'60 trucks have been found w/ the bumpers from the '56 year model mounted on them from the factory.

I think it's cool you're keeping the solid axle. I don't think I'd ever convert mine, I'm not sold that it's all that much better Like Overhead Valves, IFS is just a fad, I'm sure. The only modern amenity I want to add is a stereo system and modern seatbelts.
