8RT Oil Pump Removal?
Novice question, I know. I have disassembled a 8Rt engine which I want to rebuild for my 51 F6. I have it down to the valves and the oil pump. I tried to get the oil pump out, but I dont want to break it so I am looking for direction. Ther is only one bolt holding it in place. The four other bolts look to be for a inspection cover over the gears. What am I missing or should I have used a little more force?
Thanks Kevin

If you're taking it out you should probably just buy a new replacement anyway - break away! They get fine sediment between the shaft housing and the bore from the top and the bottom so they can get pretty solid in there.
I had one that took over a month to get out - no amount of penetrating oil helped. After being careful it finally broke - made it easier to get the rest out. You might try removing the cover on the back of the block and soaking the gear/top of the shaft/housing as well as from the bottom.
One flathead guy I know suggested hooking a chain to the pump body, then using a cherry picker or crane to lift the block just off the floor and allow the block's weight to maintain tension when you're not working on it.
