I have a 1994 Lincoln Town Car with a 4.6 engine. While driving without notice the car stops running. I put the trans in N and start it back and go on my way. Do any of you know what is going on?
It's going to take a lot more information to diagnios. What does it do before, when it shuts down, until you restart and after you restart? To the needles fall or spike? does the radio go haywire? Tires squeel?
If this is happening while driving, you could have a failing fuel pump or a short in your wiring harness or a loose ground wire. Based off of the limited information, that's all I've got.
It runs normal, no problems at all, when the engine stops, no brakes, steering is gone and a bunch of lights light up. I haven't noticed about the radio. After the engine starts back it runs normally again.
That's cause the engine is no longer providing vacume for the booster, belt movement for p/s pump. So it doesn't die, stumble or smoke, it just shuts off. Being that is very abrupt I would start electrical.
Does it do it when driving at a steady speed or when you let off of the gas?
Have you scanned for codes? If may have one stored even though the check engine light isn't lit.
