G-*****,
Looks like we are on the same wave length. I understand the kit runs about $300 and it includes the glass. It's too bad no one offers a kit without the glass, but with a glass pattern. At least that way you would save money by getting the glass cut locally and a lot of the shipping expense since the glass is so heavy.

You need a channel that is about 20 inches long. The inside dimension between the legs is 5/8". The inside depth is 1/2".
A sheet metal shop can bend one up from something like 18 ga. sheet metal. A small bracket is welded to the channel about 6-7" from the bottom. the bracket can be set to bolt to the front of the door or to the inside of the door. The bracket must hold the bottom of the channel in line with the original channel on the rear side of glass. Attach the top of channel to the run built into door with a small screw.

I was looking through my new Sacramento Vintage Ford catalog and they offer a "bulk universal window channel" kit for 48-52s for $18.50 . The channels are 96 inches long. I assume this could be used to do your own one piece conversion as long as you had a glass pattern.

The bulk window channel that you found in Sac Ford is the channel with the little fuzzy stuff inside. this is what the glass slides up and down in.
You HAVE to have a steel channel to mount this window channel in. Look inside your doors at the back of the window. You will see a channel going nearly to the bottom of the door. The window channel is installed into this steel channel. You have to add a steel support channel, similiar to this, at the front of the window if you're going with one piece glass. See my previous post giving details of the new channel that you have to add. Otherwise the division bar serves this purpose for the stock windows.

CabbyDaddy, I would appreciate a copy of the glass template. Is this something you can email or is it snail mail? Thanks!
I found that the 3/4" square tubing from the hardware store is perfect for making the new front track. Cut one side off the tubing and you have a channel that the window channel fits into perfectly. Better than trying to bend one up!
