1998 f150 air conditioning problems

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I am having the same problem on both my trucks. (1994 F150, and 2001 Sport Trac) When going up a hill or passing a car, the air stops blowing from the vent, and comes out of the defrost (on dash). I have looked everywhere for an air leak, but can not find one. I figure if I have the same problem with both trucks, it must be common.

Pick one or make up something similar.

where the air comes out is controlled by a couple air cylinders that move distributor doors inside the air duct. if you run out of vacuum, the doors close and blow to the defroster duct, if you have vacuum, you can get the doors to open and send the air to the dash or floor. when you stomp on the throttle, you go to minimum vacuum in the motor manifold. if you have a small pin hole in the vacuum line, and stomp on the throttle, you probalby loose the vacuum altogether. on the 150- look on the passenger side fire wall. there is a 3/16 hose that goes thru the firewall to thedash controls. look at the TEE just outside the fire wall, look at the hose connection on the motor intake manifold, look at the hose going to the accumulator tank behind the battery box (toward the fender). one of the hoses probably is old and cracked. The explorer works the same way, but i dont know exactly where the vacuum hose goes thru the firewall.
