Thumbs down Transmission Filler tube leaks

I have a 99 f250 v10 w e4od transmission with 100K miles.

Problem is filler tube leaks where it is inserted into transmission. Leaks directly on exhaust pipe. Fluid collects inside heat shield, smokes, boils etc.

I removed tube-some red stuff at lip no o-ring, bushing etc. Check with ford dealer no bushing o-ring etc shown on microfitch. I found an o-ring that fit between tube and transmission. Still leaks. After hard pull noticed a lot of smoke looked found tube leaking from up high. Seems some genius at Ford put a 2 piece filler tube on my truck. It was leaking at joint.

I removed tube, a real pain, replaced the o-ring in the joint, replaced the o-ring at joint between tube and transmission, filter etc. Again still leaking.

Anyone else had this problem? Or have any ideas on how to stop leak? I have been told not to use silicone as a joint sealer. I am ready to use epoxy putty if I thought it would work.

Transmission is a pain to fill. Oil reads high on the stick on one side. I guess it sticks to the inside of tube. After it sits a while it reads ok. When the fluid change happened the transmission was finally filled but after sitting overnight was extremely overfull when cold. After running a while it was correct.

I had the same problem with my filler tube after someone worked on my truck and banged the filler tube enough to bend it slightly. I bought some High Temp (Red) RTV made by Permatex which solved my problem. I had to drain a little of the transmission fluid out so it wouldn't leak out while the rtv was curing. With the Filler tube installed, I put a good bead of the rtv around the filler tube where it mates with the transmission. It's been about 4 years since I did this and it hasn't leaked a drop.

Hope this helps.

Well, for now I've gone the permatex route. I haven't had time to fill the tranny, but I have put the sealant on it and secured the filler hose. This evening I ran across a Facebook Marketplace ad about a place selling reman. trannys. I sent him a message and asked him about the issue. He said he's seen it before and it's no big deal. He said the part is easy to replace and sent me the info. Depending on where you get the part it can range from $15-$25.
