1964 Ford Vanette Step Van needs power steering

I have a 1964 Ford step van. I think it is a Vanette but really don't know how to tell for sure. It is big, like a UPS truck. I just bought it, and I'm not sure what size the motor is but it is a V8 with an automatic transmission. A friend of mine glanced at it and says it is not a big block. It's a one ton I am pretty positive. Anyways, it didn't come with power steering and I want it. Was wondering what years pickup trucks, or any other type of Ford, power steering units would just bolt in there??? I hope. Thanks, Garett.

What kind of front suspension do you have? Leaf springs you will most likely be able to use a power cylinder like the old mustangs or do a toyota power steering gear box swap. Do a search to get more answers.

Garett, Welcome to the nations truck stop and the 61-66 forum

Glad to have you onboard, we don't get your trucks questions everyday, but hopefully we can help.

Does your trucks regristration begin with a P that would make it a P Series?

thanks
John

1964 Ford Vanette

Yes the VIN number starts with a P. And I think I found the VIN badge on the dashboard it has a number P350 on it. A friend of mine thought this might have the same frame as one of the Ford pick up trucks but I have not a clue. I do want power steering though, bad. I found some nice modern aluminum Ford mag wheels for it today at a yard sale for $20.00 came off a F350. Garett.

It does have leaf springs in the front. I dunno about putting a toyota part on here, if it doesn't just bolt in place than it is probably above my abilities. Probably. Thanks, Garett.

I wouldn't be suprised if 80's or 90's P series vans still use the same front axle set up. I work at UPS and am around the shop alot. We have a few 90's Ford
delivery trucks with ps on straight axles. The brake hydraulics are connected to the same system. Might be worth looking for someone that deals with Ford delivery vans.
