Well the first thing i would do is have an emotional break down. Cry myself to sleep that night. Not know what to do with myself and even go to town and trade in my ford for a dodge cursing sayin every name in the book on the way because i want nothing to do with a chebbie. Ford would lose this customer as hard as it is to say. My whole family, parents, cousins we would all be pissed.

"Since they are both soaring in sales"

They wish! Why would two companies that are very very hard pressed to turn anything resembling a profit want to merge. Both corporations are too overbloated to be able to really compete in the marketplace a merger would only exastorbate this...... On second thought I wouldn't put it past em.

I've heard the merger is on the way since Toyota is beefing up their production in the US. Ford and GM just want to stay afloat...

I'm not big on GM makes, and Ford's not perfect. But we do absolutely need to have choices. The industry has become too complacent with the little competition there is.

Its been talked about but thats it. I doubt if it would ever happen. Ford has got there dealers an GM.Chevy have theres. The upheavel would be just to great. In the long rum it might be detrimental to both companies. To be it would lust be saying that Toyotas won an thats it. I really think GM an Ford can put the kabash on Toyotas upsurge right now. Last months sale results for Ford were pretty encouraging from what ive seen. Lots off there vehicles are begining to sell well an I think new products will keep the sales going up an up. People have heard the story about Fords problems as off late an are thinking maybe a new Ford should bein my garage. An the same way withGM. The bowtie, blue oval rivalry has been going on for near 100 years. Lets keep it going an keep out Toyota.

Damn toyota, I wish those pos never washed up on are shores. And I love Ford and GM I would hate to c them merge though. What I would like to c though is maybe a seperate company owned by both ford and gm, the best of ford and the best of Gm mixed together in one vechile. That be better I think then just having 1 Ford/Gm company, have Ford be ford and Gm be gm, and then have the hybrid of the 2 as a seperate company, Id name the company AMC just becuase, lol.

i think ford needs to spin off and make a new company just for its light trucks. i would hate to see, (and probably already happens) ford cheapen up its quality on its superduty's just to save money because the rest of its products are lagging behind.

Nah, if Ford and GM merged we would have Gord, and we know how useless they are!

Although, Catan70 does make a good point.

While i think it is possible and looking thru rose colored glasses it might cure some of the nagging little design issues that each manufacture has... BUT more likely the bean counters would make each take there worst efforts and build one total piece of junk.

Somewhat tounge in cheek -

If this ever happened, I just wouldn't buy a new vehicle. Ever. Period. I dont want anything to do with any GM-ness.

Go find some 1970's Ford truck, put a reasonable motor in it, Holley 600cfm, points, and go. Keep it simple, go down the road.

I think a merger would only make the reason they are n the position they are in only worse. It's the bureauracy. By the time a great car of design goes through all the committees, focus groups, accounting, etc., a great car becomes so vanilla it is no longer desirable and is already out of date.
