How do i clear check engine codes in the memory?

I have some check engine codes that i need to clear out. I've got a 95 F150 with an OBD1 connector, whats the procedure for this.

If you have access to a scanner, then you can use that. Otherwise you can unhook the battery and that should clear them. You should leave it unhooked about fifteen minutes.

Okay thanks. I already tried unhooking the battery but it was only unhooked for maybe 30 seconds to a minute. I'll try leaving it off longer.

I do have a scanner but I followed the directions for deleting codes and it didn't work either.

I heard something about 3 power cycles but I wasn't sure how accurate that was. Thanks for the advice.

What are the codes? It's possible that as soon as you clear them, it will set the codes again. If I recall correctly, there is a capacitor or small battery on the computer board that takes a little while to go completely dead. Went to a tranny seminar back in Feb. and they touched on this, don't recall the details 100%.

I don't know about the scanner, but when you use the jumper wire to blink the check engine light, just pull the jumper while the codes are blinking and that erases the codes without resetting the adaptive stategies in the computer.
