New 65 Toy

Hi all, I really like this site, great efi swap info! My dad and I just bought a 65 F-100 Shortbed Six three on the tree solid truck. We would like to put a 351W in it with a possibe tremec five speed(i love the one in my mustang!). The catalogs that I have looked at have only listed a 351W swap kit up to 64. What is neccessary for a propper swap. I figure new motor mounts but wht about the frame to motor mounts? Also what year 351W would be a good daily driver plus choice? My dad is looking for economy with a little extra power on tap. We would like a roller cam, how about the svo sportsman shortblock? To much? It will not be efi'ed for a long time. Also, disc brake conversions? any junkyard swaps or is it all aftermarket choices? Thanx for the help! This looks like a great forum!

You can always tell these kids with a new toy, canna daddy canna?

Start reading the archive pages and you can find most of the answers that you are looking for. Then you can post to fine tune them. :-)

Thanx for the help, im not that old but not some kid, im 23 but still enjoy working on truks/cars with my dad. We have done quite a bit on my stang and maverick as well as his 65 F250 and 69 bronco. The searh page would not work on my school's computer, I will try when I get home. Thanx again

I have two older than you, you're still a kid. You don't have to search just go to the bottom of the page and start clicking on the past page numbers.

all you need for the small block conversion is to rob the engine perches from a 65-79 small block equiped truck. you will also need the correct motor mounts for the same application. the current six cylinder front coil springs should hold up the chassis just fine, big block coils could be installed for a stiffer ride. if you install the tremic 5-speed, you are on your own as far as a transmission mount, i have no clue what will happen there, but would love to here back from you if you do make this modification.
reguarding the disc convertion; you have probably found by now the technical section in this site, there you will find many helpful articles to help you with your 65. an article on disc convertions is included in this section.
congratulations on your 65 ford truck purchase! you now own one of the toughest vehicles on the planet! enjoy!!! j.frank

Take John's method for the conversion. Though I still believe in my method, based on what I've since heard about the stronger I-beams, do the i-beam swap.... though I still insist that the king pings should be replaced! John.... when can you supply a swap supplement? There's a t-shirt with your name on it waiting for you (shameless baiting...).

Thanx for the info, doesnt the radiator need to be swapped, it looks smaller, and the outlets are on the wrong side. What is the I beam swap you are talking about, mine had drop axles when I bought it (sunday), but I would like to swap in straigt axles, who is a good source to contact about straight axles? Thanx
