Post Keyless remote programming question

I know how to program the remote fobs but what I'm wanting to know is this, when you follow the programming procedure are you programming the truck to the remote or the remote to the truck??????
The reason for this question is, if you have multiple Fords can you get them to lock/unlock from the same remote? This would keep me from having to carry two or three remotes. Anyone know or tried this?

I believe that it is programming the truck to reconize the fob. It may be possible to use it on more than one vehicle.

i think the FOB sends its code to the truck which stores the code in its computer. you should be able to program two trucks for the same FOB.

Now that I have given this more thought, I have to agree with LXMan and Steve.

Recently I had to replace a remote because the plastic loop broke out and it would stay on the key ring. Got a used replacement from e-bay cheap. Followed the procedure in my owners manual to program it to the truck. Had to do the procedure a couple of times because the first time I only programmed the "new" fob. After doing this, my original fobs would not work. Did it again this time programming the "new" adn my good fob but not the broken one. The broken one now does not work, and the other two do.

While this tends to prove LXMan and Steve right, it doesn't prove that a single fob could be programed to two different vehicles. In theory, I believe that it can be done.

When you try this, be sure to have all all of the Mustang's fobs and the truck fob available for programming to the Mustang. Press a button on each remote when programming them which sends the code to the computer. When done, check operation of all fobs to the Mustang and then your fob to your truck. Let us know how it works out.

OK, for the record, I had a relatives '03 Sport today and took his remote and did the program sequence on my 98 S.Cab. His remote now works on both of our trucks. I had a complete Ford remote kit I bought for my Crown Vic and the remotes supplied in that kit would not work on my truck. I also now doubt my wifes Mustang remotes will work on my truck. I think the truck remotes have to be 2L3T-15K601-AA remotes for the following vehicles:
1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR, 1998 -2006 MAZDA B2500 1998-2006 MAZDA B3000, 1998-2006 MAZDA B4000, 2001-2006 MAZDA TRIBUTE, 1998-2001 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER, 2004-2006 MERCURY MONTEREY, 2005 2006 MERCURY MARINER 1998-2006 FORD RANGER, 1998-2006 FORD F-150, 1998-2006 FORD F-250, 1998-2006 FORD F-350, 2000-2006 FORD ESCAPE, 2000-2005 FORD SPORT TRAC, 2000-2006 FORD EXCURSION, 1999-2006 FORD ECONOLINE E-150, 1998-2001 FORD EXPLORER 4 DOOR, 1998-2005 FORD EXPLORER 2 DOOR, 1998-2003 FORD WINDSTAR, 2004-2006 FORD FREESTAR, 2005 2006 FORD FREESTYLE.

Could someone throw the remote fob programming sequence on the page? I just bought a remote fob off Ebay but need to know the proper programming sequence for my '99 F150 Super cab XLT.

Remote Transmitter Programming
NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed at the same time.
1. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN eight times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN. If the module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.
2. Within 20 seconds, press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed. Repeat this step for each transmitter.
3. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Inspection and Verification.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to 20 seconds after Step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the doors will lock and unlock one last time to confirm.

So the census of this is what? Will one remote work for two vehicles or not? I have a 2001 F150 Super Duty and a 1999 Expedition. Can I do both vehicles with one remote? If so, can I program both of the remotes to work with both vehicles too, lol.

This can be touching on getting funny here....Which came first? The chicker or the Egg. LOL.

In your case, yes. All of your remotes should have 2L3T-15K601-AA on the back. Take your remotes from both vehicles (and program your 99 Expy and then do the same for your 2001 truck, ........an 01 F150 Super Duty???????? You can program a maximum of 4 to a vehicle.

Thanks, and I have an 01 F-150 Super Crew and not the Super Duty. Not sure how the super duty was inserted in my text.
