WATER HEATER ISSUES - my thoughts FWIW

A number of things happen with different kinds of WH's. Many have only one electric heater control - located behind the panel on the outside of the trailer. You should find a small black switch in the lower left corner behind a loop of gas lines.

This means that if it is turned on out there, anytime you plug in at a site the electric element will try to heat water. But if there is NO water in the tank, the water temperature sensor can detect NOTHING...

So the heater element runs until it is burnt in half, and works no more....

Check that switch. Commonly, there are heater controls over the bathroom sink.

IF YOU DON'T SEE ONE for electric - it's out in the panel, and must be OFF when not being used in order to protect the element.

TO CHECK THE TANK FOR WATER: You need to find the access to the inside of your hot water tank, and find the bypass valves that are used for "WINTERISATION" and make sure they are set for "NORMAL FLOW". Then you can bleed air out of the tank from behind the outdoors panel with the upper poppit valve. Next run any residual air out of the lines to your sinks and what-all

NEXT: GAS water heaters.

Make sure the gas is on (LPG) but also make sure it has a full TWELVE VOLTS to supply the gas solenoid. If your RV battery(s) are below 12V, that valve will only turn partially on - which causes insufficient gas flow, and frequent flame out and relighting.

When your convertor is working right - both the generator and "SHORE POWER" cord will apply 13+ volts to charge the battery. If you have a class "C" the engine when it runs should be charging it from the alternator.

If you don't have enough juice from the battery, the LPG valve/solenoid to the burner is just not going to be open enough to maintain a good flame.

-So I learned last week.

It is also possible that one of two conditions exist:
1) Bugs or something have made a home in your burner tube, and blocked it. Compressed air and a blower nozzle work well for clearing that.

2) The gas orifice has accumulated JUNK in it, just like a carbuerettor jet - and it needs simple cleaning.
