ok guys this isn't for my ford...........its for my chevy race truck, yea yea i know, but i havn't got any responce from the chevy web sites, and i read alot of good info coming from fellow ford guys!!
here's the current truck set up(79 chevy 4x4): 355cid, 11:1 comp, AFR compatition heads, .570/.585 COMP custom ground cam, stud girdle, roller rocker, wiend team G intake, HP carb, MSD 6AL, w/ HEI style distributer, timing at 14*int/33.5* total! (mainly did that for vacume idle rule requirements), mini starter, 1-3/4 headers, built trans w/ 4000 stall.
i'm looking for about a "wet shot" 100 (125max) plate style system (4150 square bore)! i have heard (from guys currently running NOS) that if you stay w/ in 125hp you might not have to install a timing retard box. just might have to advance it a couple degrees of total timing. is there any fact in this? if i do need a timing retard box how many degrees would a 100-125 shot require? and if you fellas have any other recomendations feel free to throw them in. thanks again guys!!
You'll want to retard timing 3-4 degrees for the 100-125 shot. I'd recommend the retard box so you have optimal performance from your engine when you're not on the bottle and then will automatically have the timing retarded when you activate the nitrous. Another option, if you pay attention and remember to use it, is to install an MSD timing control which allows you to manually advance or retard the timing from the cab. Then you could just dial it back as needed and advance it when you've completed your run.
if you were to put a msd digital 6 box in, it has an adjustable retard that would only be on when the nitrous is armed.has a built in rev limiter and lots of goodies.also whats the lobe sep on the cam.a little wider is better for nitrous.
I second that also get 2 step colder plugs and make damn sure to make sure you a/f ratio is good or you blow it up. also consider getting a fuel pressure switch and a window switch just for precaution.

i do have a manual timing adjust. i was actually thinkin of trying a "different" than normal set up with that.
i was going to set the timing with the knob about in the middle (7.5*) and then i could adjust either way (advance/retard) up to 7*. well after that is done wire the timing box into a RPM switch, and set the knob back 3-4*! that way the 3-4* retard wouldn't ocuure till the timing box gets power from the RPM switch. or the other option was to wire the timing bax into a WOT switch, so once WOT occures the box would get power and retard 3-4*. how does that option sound?

that's my second option. and the only reason i haven't dove into that one is the cost of a new digital box...........if i can snag one off good'ol e-bay, i'll definetly go for it!!

i hear good things about the new mallory digital boxes and they are cheaper than msd's.i have a dig6 in my bronco and like it but know a few people with the new mallory's and they like 'em.cam sounds ok.106-108 lc would be alittle on the tight side.
