'94 Turbo diesel dies on deccel and sputters on Accel

I was test driving a truck today. '94 Turbo diesel Auto with approx 150,000 mi.

As I was Accelerating, it sputtered/coughed like it was not getting enough fuel?
And 3 times in approx 2 miles it died either as I was slowing down or as I came to a stop at a light.

Aside from this, it appears to be a good truck at a good price.
But not knowing what could be causing this problem I am concerned about purchasing it.

Seller claims it is time for an oil change and that he has not had this problem.
He has not driven it for over a month prior to my test drive today.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Is it a Powerstroke or an IDI with a turbocharger mounted on it?

Most likely you have a bad CPS. Camshaft position sensor.
You can get them for $70.00 on Ebay.

Let him change the oil and prove to you that it is the problem with another test drive. No freaking way I'd buy that truck as is, nor is it your problem to fix it.

Thanks for the advice.
I am still looking.
Any suggestions as to what to look for or avoid?
I have narrowed my search to Newer than 1990 4x4 Automatic under $10,000
What are the most common problems?
