2000 Ranger 4x4- heater/ac fan motor
Only have 1 speed (high) on fan motor and winter is coming! Changed the main speed selector switch -did not fix the problem. then set about to find the main fan resistor near / behind the glove box. found several items, disconnected 1 at a time and tried fan after each one--did not fix the problem.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???????????????? No wise cracks PLEASE!

It definitely sounds like the resistor assembly. It is screwed into the front of the fan housing in the engine compartment. The housing is in the back passenger-side corner of the engine compartment, behind the coolant and windshield fluid resevoirs. You should see a connector with a few wires going into the housing, with a screw on either side of it. Carefully pop off the connector, take the screws out, and you can pull out that corroded resistor assembly.

It may be in different places on different years, but I'd expect my '98 and your '00 to be fairly similar, if not exactly the same in regard to that system. I'm fairly certain that we have the same heater plenum.
By the way, just disconnecting it isn't going to "fix" the problem. I'd have to check the wiring diagram again, but it might not even change the current performance (it may still work in high after you disconnect). You'll most likely need to replace it with a new one (I think it was about $10~$15 at the dealer).

Glad you got it fixed. I sort of expected that the HI setting would work even with the resistor out of the circuit since it is bypassed for HI anyway. Interesting that the plug was "burnt out" as well. I had to replace the connector as well, but that was because it was corroded to the resistor assembly so well that I broke it when I pried it off.
