Speedo cable

Howdy from finally dry and sunny Tyler, Texas! At least for 2 hours this afternoon anyway! I am wondering if anyone has replaced a speedo cable in a 66 or similar truck. I have just installed a new tranny (looks strangely like Skip's ;-) ). Anyway the cable isn't long enough to reach the new location of the insertion point. Is it possible to reroute the cable to give me an extra couple of inches? And how does this fit with replacing my instruments with some from Autometer?

thanks as always,
mike
