Stock 302 Windsor Block; What HP Will It Hold?
I'm fixing to begin a 347 Stroker build-up for my F-150.
I've been looking at some blocks, and a few questions have come to mind.
My MAIN question is, though:
What horsepower/torque will a stock 302 Windsor-cast block hold?
I'm building for the 450-500hp range.
Thanks!

There's really no need for me to go beyond 500hp. I still want it to be reliable and fully-streetable.
I saw some "splayed" 4-bolt mains for a 302 block, but I can't remember where I saw them. That would do the trick, IMO. As long as the cylinder walls can hold the compression...
Thanks for your response.

Whatever you decide get a Main Support. This will help in your quest to make 450 reliable horsepower. I had a naturally aspirated DSS 306(dssracing.com) with the main support. I was sporting about 435 HP at the motor and 380+ at the wheels. This saw the strip(11.90's) for 4 years and plenty of daily driving until I sold it. The new owner has put yet another year on it with no issues. This motor is spinning 6800 rpms on a regular basis.
This was a 87-93 block that was balanced with STOCK race prepped rods and crank and forged pistons. Nothing fancy at all.
Now, I realize you don't need a race motor but this just shows how well the 5.0 holds up. Just pick the right parts and have the right person put it together, Or buy a complete shortblock from a reputable company like DSS or Coast High.
